Wedding Bells

Everyone wants to look their best at their wedding and a beautiful smile as you say “I do” is mandatory! With so much to organise, I often find that brides/grooms leave their dental preparation to the last minute, sometimes involving unrealistic expectations and unfinished results. Depending on what you would like to achieve, have a dental consultation well in advance so that you can have the smile that you want for your special day.

Consultation

Many people use their weddings as a good excuse to finally get the smile that they have always wanted and maybe smooth out a few unwanted lines and wrinkles while they’re there. What better reason to finally act on something that has been lingering in your mind for some time. If you want to have a nice, white, straight smile for your big day you need to plan WELL BEFOREHAND. Having an idea as to what treatment is required is important, as for example, orthodontics can take up to 2 years for a course of treatment! Know what it is you would like improved and make sure that you have had a comprehensive cosmetic consultation so that you and your cosmetic dentist are all on the same page.

Veneers

Veneers are a common form of smile enhancement and produce beautiful, long lasting results that will keep you smiling well beyond your wedding day. If you are thinking about having dental veneers to revamp your smile for your wedding, I recommend that you have a cosmetic dental consultation 6 months prior to the wedding date. The planning process is very important and this is something that you want done exactly to your and your dentists expectations. When having multiple veneers, it can take a little bit of time for everything to feel normal again and settle in, so give yourself this time prior to your wedding day. Start to finish, most veneer cases are completed over a 3 week time period. You will have 2 weeks with temporary veneers in place, which will look great, but you do need to be careful with them. I do not recommend leaving dental veneers to the last minute.

Facial injectables

Patients who are thinking about or who routinely have facial injectables, should come in for their pre-wedding consultation 1 month prior to their wedding date. This ensures that any anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers used will still be in full action on your wedding day, but any potential redness, swelling or bruising will not. Cosmetic injectables are a great, easy way to make you feel extra refreshed for your special day, whether you be the bride or the groom.

Teeth whitening

Tooth whitening is the most common pre-wedding procedure and luckily is the simplest. I recommend for brides/grooms to come in 1 month prior to their wedding to organise their tooth whitening. You will need a full clean and polish prior to any whitening for it to be most effective. The bleach needs to get to the actual tooth surface, not just the coffee stains! From here, impressions/moulds of your teeth will be taken for the production of your whitening trays, this usually takes at least a week. Once this is ready, you come in to collect your whitening kit, go over the instructions and away you go. The whitening process will take 7 days to whiten your teeth to their full potential and this will last for up to 2 years. There is generally a degree of mild sensitivity during the whitening process, which is reversible once the whitening is complete with the aid of specialised desensitising tooth pastes. When done in this manner, you will have beautifully white teeth for your day and will be able to enjoy it without any unwanted sensitivity.
